Our last day in Tokyo was actually a trip out of Tokyo. Using JR passes, which pretty much allow you to travel on all rail and bus networks in Japan, we had our first ever experience of a bullet train. Speedometer shows the speed at a snapshot, but it did go a little higher. Scenery is a bit challenging to look at when passing by in a blur!
Our day trip was to Mount Fuji, involving lots of different trains – bullet, local, funicular and finishing with a cable car ride. Sadly it was covered in cloud (and lots of volcanic steam which was very sulphurous) so we could only get a flavour of it.
Back down in Hakone we sampled Machi icecream (very green – and quite tasty).
Our final night was in complete tourist mode at Gonpachi restaurant, famous for being recreated by Tarantino for an iconic fight scene in Kill Bill. Both being fans of the film we had to do it. The food was excellent and it was a great night out. Dessert was an icecream bought from a vending machine on the street on the walk home.
Today is bullet train to Osaka!
Must have been surreal to eat in the Kill Bill scene!!
Loved the film too.
Great to see all the photos. Wish we had digital in the days we spent in Thailand & Cambodia. Amazing to have these memories xxx
Sounds like youre having fun! Thanks for sharing.
